While there has been a
lot of hype about how America voted for change in the last
election, how can such a statement even be made when 60
percent of the people didn't care?
In reality, a little over
20 percent of the entire U.S. population voted for change.
A little less than 20 percent voted for the status quo.
The majority, by far, voted by not voting, and they said
they don't either care or they don't really believe in one
of the foundations of America - voting.
How can any politician be
happy with the current state of affairs in America? Oh, I
know. Actually, the current state of affairs is perfect
for politicians, it makes it far easier to control the
people.
Possibly more distressing
than the turnout - which was relatively high by recent
historical standards - was the amount of money spent, more
than $2 billion dollars.
To become a member of the
House or Representatives you have to spend almost
$700,000. For the Senate it takes about $7,000,000.
Are you kidding me?
$7,000,000 to represent 20 percent of your constituents?
And yet voter turnout
isn't even a major concern for the far majority of
American politicians.
Is American democracy
dead?
