A 1900% beer tax?

Stop the beer tax.I'll never move to Oregon

Rate American stupidity - $20 billion on foreign oil in December

Almost $20 billion on foreign oil dependency for just the month of December? How stupid is America?
And that's a cheap month

For months America's oil demand has been crashing, despite considerably lower gas prices than just 6 months ago.

The price of a barrel of oil has declined to less than a third of 2008 highs.

Yet, America still spent $19.3 billion on foreign oil in the month of December.

And THAT's a BAD month, at least as far as the exporters of America's foreign oil are concerned. For America it was a fricken bargain.

Almost $20 billion a month is a deal!?! Are we stupid? Finish: Rate American stupidity - $20 billion on foreign oil in December

Can $335 million in condoms stimulate the economy?

On the verge of depression, is sex ed really a necessity?

President Barack Obama has told America that government waste is over, and as we spend hundreds of billions to stimulate the economy, things will be done differently this time. No pork. No earmarks. No waste. Razor sharp action, unlike Bush's Wall Street bailout.

Today, the country is in a financial quagmire, and the worst may be yet to come according to numerous financial experts. Thus, Obama has been very focused on creating a stimulus package to save and create jobs.

Yet, how does $335 million for STD prevention really stimulate the economy any time soon?

Quality: Perez Hilton v. Ann Coulter

Perez Hilton - Every mother's dream

I absolutely believe in free speech. So, when I heard that NBC was considering a ban against conservative Ann Coulter, I knew I had to investigate the story. Apparently, NBC executives floated the ban idea because Coulter's new book Guilt takes a pretty harsh stand against what Coulter believes is an extreme liberal bias in the media. Apparently, she also takes a few shots a President-Elect Barack Obama.

Thus, NBC pulled her from an episode of the Today Show. Instead, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton took her place. Finish: Quality: Perez Hilton v. Ann Coulter

Bailout money funding executive bonuses - Congress, Bush SUCK!

Thanks Bush, Congress and the rest of the jokers

I was just watching some coverage on CNBC about how a number of Wall Street firms are using taxpayer bailout money to fund executive bonuses. Thus, our taxpayer money is funding the bonuses of executives whom lost 100's of billions of our wealth.

According to one expert on the panel, this is because Congress left loopholes in the bailout bill, as usual. But what do members of Congress really care? The majority are millionaires, all of them are rich.

Getting rich serving us?

The average American lives, barely, paycheck to paycheck - if you can call it that. We face constant worries of coming up short. In fact, it seems like we always come up short.

Let me just get this out there. I'm NOT voting for Barack Obama. Of course, I'm not voting for John McCain either. I'm going to vote for whichever third party candidate catches my fancy on election day.

Even more important, I'm voting against EVERY single incumbent in Congress up for election in my district, which I think is a far more important task than voting for President. Lest we forget, it is Congress that legislates.

Hillary Clinton in tears: Was it planned?

Mrs. Always Well Coached gets emotional?

So, Hillary Clinton is asked a softball beauty question on the Eve of the New Hampshire primary that causes her to cry because she cares more than any of the other candidates for President? (more)

I'm sorry, but that is pathetic. Sure, maybe she's a bit emotional and she sheds a tear and tells the crowd sorry. "It's just been a long tough campaign, but let's turn these tears into tears of joy. Together we can change the world." That would have been enduring, instead she attacks?

Proof the NYTimes protects the Clintons?

Is there any such thing as media objectivity?

I'm a blogger and I'm not objective. I usually report an issue and then offer my perspective. I'm not really reporting the news. I'm commenting on the news.

Should the NYTimes be considered the same as just an opionated blog, or should they be held to a higher level of objectivity?

Case in point. Bill Clinton is now trying to claim that he was anti-war, as was his wife, from the beginning. But the facts are far less convincing. Covering this story, the NYTimes chose a quote from a 2004 Time article that goes, "I would not have done it until after Hans Blix finished the job,” referring to the weapons inspections there before the war.

So, maybe he did or did not support the war according to that article. The NYTimes is questioning Bill on this point, but is it objectively reporting the facts?

There are other quotes in the same article cited by the NYTimes that offer a much more convincing perspective. "That's why I supported the Iraq thing. There was a lot of stuff unaccounted for. So I thought the President had an absolute responsibility to go to the U.N. and say, "Look, guys, after 9/11, you have got to demand that Saddam Hussein lets us finish the inspection process." You couldn't responsibly ignore [the possibility that] a tyrant had these stocks. I never really thought he'd [use them]. What I was far more worried about was that he'd sell this stuff or give it away. .........So that's why I thought Bush did the right thing to go back. When you're the President, and your country has just been through what we had, you want everything to be accounted for............"

Ultimately, Bill claimed he didn't agree with the "timing of the attack", not the attack itself.

That certainly sounds much more supportive of the Bush's position, and it also sounds far from anti-War. So, why did the NYTimes choose the soft quote? Why not call Bill out on this? To protect Hillary Clinton?

Rate the NYTimes: Should they be held to a higher standard of objectivity?

What is environmental hypocrisy?

What's worse: gas-guzzling or eating meat?

Recently Heather Mills showed up for a photo shoot to make the connection between global warming and eating meat in a gas-guzzling SUV. While Ms. Mills is right about the meat eating and global warming connection, there is also a big connection between gas-guzzling and global warming.
So does Mrs. Mills have a leg to stand on? Sadly, she does not - no pun intended.

Nonetheless, the point Mills is trying to make is a strong one, one that shows just how much of a hypocrite many environmentalists, such as Al Gore, are in the real world. Gore talks about how dangerous global warming is and buys carbon credits to offset the massive amount of pollution his mansion and jet-flying causes, but he could probably have a bigger effect on global warming by going vegetarian, yet this isn't part of Gore's inconvenient truth. Why?

Maybe the goal to being a good environmentalist is to do less lecturing and more living by example?

Democrats or Republicans: Does it really matter?

Lou Dobbs: Both parties run by the rich

Has anything really changed since the Democrats took office after the 2006 midterm elections? Has this Congress passed any real legislation aimed at helping this nation's middle class versus corporate America and the wealthiest among us?

Take, for example, the Senate Democrats who for some reason can't decide whether to close the hedge fund tax loophole that allows executives at private equity firms and hedge funds to pay a tax rate of only 15 percent on most of their income. Closing the loophole would be the best way to reform the alternative minimum tax and provide relief for millions of middle-class families, but these Senate Democrats are being guided by the almighty forces of campaign contributions and lobbying dollars. These Senate Democrats, like their Republican colleagues, are serving a few wealthy folks at the expense of our working men and women (more).

Hugo Chavez: Hollywood's freedom-loving King!?

Long live the King! Long live freedom!

"Soldiers used tear gas, plastic bullets and water cannons to scatter tens of thousands who massed Thursday to protest constitutional reforms that would permit Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to run for re-election indefinitely. Led by university students, protesters chanted "Freedom! Freedom!" and warned that 69 amendments drafted by the Chavista-dominated National Assembly would violate civil liberties and derail democracy."

Is too much money being spent on political advertising?

$3 billion+ this election cycle

"A wide-open presidential race and a willingness by candidates, interest groups, unions and corporations to buy TV time will lead to historic spending for political and issue-advocacy advertising in the 2008 election cycle, an analysis shows.

The cost to try to influence the 2008 election could exceed $3 billion, according to TNS Media Intelligence/Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on political television advertising.

This is nearly twice as much than what was spent in 2004 when political and issue-advocacy television advertising rang in at $1.7 billion. In 2006, $2.3 billion was spent on political and issue-advocacy TV commercials."

Are Democrats using Armenian Genocide to thwart the Iraq War?

Can America stay in Iraq without Turkey?

In the early 1900's, some of Turkey's mullahs essentially ordered the genocide of more than 1,000,000 Armenians. Today, more than 100 years later, there is a movement in Congress to ratify a resolution acknowledging this genocide.
