No war talk Jack, please - Music Talk

Just sing and play, jack

Dammit! There is nothing worse than getting to know too much about people, especially famous people. Too often, almost always, they disappoint. In the end they are usually just like you and me - FLAWED - but with more money.

Anyway, I'm a HUGE fan of Jack White, but then he had to go and open his mouth on politics and wars.

Turns out the US Air Force ripped off Jack's "Fell in Love with a Girl" for their Super Bowl ad, without his permission.

Sue 'em, please. I don't have a problem with that. Instead, however, Jack had to go off about "a war he doesn't support". War? Please, just stop. War? Why not throw in the evils of capitalism, something in which every successful entertainer knows well?

I mean, honestly, I don't give one F what Jack White thinks about whatever war he is talking about. If Jack wants to rage against the machine - into which he feeds tons of profits - then start where you can actually have an effect. Save the public service announcements for those with washed up careers.

Besides, if you really don't like the war, Jack, write a fricken song about it. Maybe I'll buy it, maybe I won't, but I'll respect you more.

Rock stars can change the world?

What is the voice of popularity worth?

So, you've probably heard that Madonna was booed at a concert, but she wasn't booed because her music sucked. Instead, Madonna made some comments regarding racism and homophobia.

While I empathize with all of Madonna's comments, I wonder if they are helpful? Ultimately, isn't it human nature to detest lecturing?

If racism against Gypsies - in this instance - is something Madonna wants to take on as a cause, wouldn't it be more productive to just demonstrate her affinity with the Gypsy culture?

Or, does her action create a conversation that ultimately helps Gypsy culture?

Live music rocks

Caught this act of live music on the sidewalk on York Blvd in Highland Park. Probably illegal, but it was awesome! Made my day.

Has Prince lost his mind?

Well, its small, skinny and purple - so it's almost like Prince

Prince is threatening to sue some of his fans for posting images of the rock super star online.

His lawyers have forced his three biggest internet fansites to remove all photographs, images, lyrics, album covers and anything linked to the artist's likeness. A legal letter asks the fansites to provide "substantive details of the means by which you propose to compensate our clients [Paisley Park Entertainment Group, NPG Records and AEG] for damages". Is Madonna still relevant?

Or more relevant than ever?

"Pop star Madonna is close to leaving her long-time Warner Bros. Records label for a wide-ranging $120 million deal with concert promotion firm Live Nation Inc., a source familiar with the talks said on Wednesday."

"The story was first reported on the Wall Street Journal's Web site, which said Madonna would receive a mix of cash and stock in exchange for allowing Live Nation to distribute three studio albums, promote concert tours, sell merchandise and license her name."

So, is Live Nation making a mistake or the deal of a lifetime?

Rate Soulja's "Crank That"

Hip Hop as sold out as Rock and Roll?

"Crank That" by Soulja isn't a bad song or video, but is it the best song on Billboard's Top 100?

Yes it is.

Wow! That's all that I can say. Well, no it isn't. First, can you say one-hit-wonder? Second, what is so special about Soulja's rap? He's not doing anything new. Nothing in this song is original.

What has the world come to?

American pop music is now ruled by Hannah Montana and Soulja. Scary!

Rate Soulja's new rap, "Crank That". Is it over-rated, or am I just not getting it? Is the best song in America now controlled by the 14 and under crowd?

What's your favorite music right now?

What are you listening to right now?

Lately, I can't get enough of Modest Mouse, and I've been really getting into their latest work, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. The songs are catchy and the melodies almost hypnotic, but the lyrics really tie everything together. It's thinking man's rock and roll, and it is simply great music.

What are you listening to right now? Rate your favorite music / album. Maybe it's an oldie, but goodie. Maybe it's brand new. Maybe you'll change your mind tomorrow.

Who Cares!? Rate your favorite album as of right now.
