Car dealership ratings and customer service

Rate your customer service

Most people don't like buying a car. It's not just that car sales people seem untrustworthy, it's the entire dealership. The GM, the finance guys. It just seems like you can't win when buying a car.

But your relationship with your car dealership doesn't end after buying your car. Often the dealership is also where you service your car.

Should the Driving Age be increased?

Rate this idea

Because car crashes are the leading teenage killer, Adrian Lund, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a research group funded by the auto insurance industry, believes that raising the legal age to drive from 16 to 17, or even 18, could possibly save thousands of lives every year, according to the AP.

Do you really need a large SUV?

Do you really need a large SUV, or do you just want it?

"Thus my point isn't that people shouldn't be allowed to buy whatever vehicle they want," states Karl on Cars yesterday morning. "My point is that you should be honest about your lifestyle and fully recognize when you really need a large, utilitarian vehicle and when you simply want one. For example, do I need a Ford GT? Nobody needs a Ford GT! However, I'm fully ready to admit I simply wanted one, functionality and earth-saving desires be damned. I'm not sure how many SUV drivers really need one, but I fear many of these folks aren't ready to admit they simply want one.

And at this point I have to add what really kills me is when these same folks, sitting in the cabin of their 6,000-pound SUVs/Crossovers/full-size trucks that they don't really need, claim to be earth conscious and/or scream "No blood for oil!" or "We need to stop being held hostage by our energy policies that subjugate us to Middle East countries."

Whatever folks."

Rate the cars at the North American International Auto Show

Check out the Detroit Auto Show during press days

I'll be at the North American International Auto Show this weekend, starting Sunday. However, if my flight arrives on time, I'll be stopping by GM's Style Event that kicks of the North American International Auto Show on Saturday night. Mary J. Blige, Kid Rock, and Maroon 5 are supposed to provide some entertainment, so I might also post some pictures from the show.

Starting Sunday I'll be posting pictures of all my favorite cars. Also, you can check out Hybridcarblog.com for more in depth Auto Show coverage.

Rate the Chevy Volt: Is it a hoax?

Shock: The Chevy Volt was just a marketing ploy?!

I was just forwarded a copy of a secret GM memo between Bob Lutz and Rick Wagoner regarding GM's plans to slowly pull the plug on the Chevy Volt, which I'll post after I check into some legalities.

It turns out that computer models just before the Volt debut at NAIAS demonstrated that GM's plan to achieve 40 miles of pure electricity with the Chevy Volt simply isn't possible without significant advances in lithium technology. Nevertheless, GM went forward with the Volt debut because it was too late to do anything else. Read more....

We all know that buying a car can be quite an ordeal sometimes. That's why information is always key. Online sites can provide a significant amount of pricing details. More important, buyers need to know about dealer incentives before shopping. Likewise, know whether a car is selling well. The longer it sits on the lot, the better your chances of negotiating a lower price.

Should America kick start the hydrogen highway?

The GM Equinox Fuel Cell Vehicle is the real deal

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could end up costing America a couple of trillion dollars. That's right, I said trillion.

And, let's be honest. Foreign oil dependence has largely controlled America's Middle East foreign policy for decades, and that foreign policy has made the US enemy number one to Islamic extremists.

So, how do we get off oil?

According to GM, just $15 billion could kick start the hydrogen economy by funding the hydrogen highway. But is the hydrogen economy a farce or a real possibility?

Rate the hydrogen highway: Considering the costs of foreign oil dependency, is $15 billion a worthy investment?

Car buying: Time for fixed-pricing?

"What do I need to do to earn your business today?"

Ummm. Be honest. Give me the very best price.

"No, I mean besides that."

That's the way most car sales experiences seem to go. Fortunately, according to BusinessWeek, there is a move towards fixed-price car shopping.

Is your Toyota Camry reliable?

Not as reliable as it used to be?

"Consumer Reports said it no longer recommends V6 versions of Toyota's Camry or V8 versions of its Tundra pick-up because of poor reliability," writes CNNMoney.

This does not apply to the Toyota Camry hybrid. In a CNBC interview earlier today, a rep from Consumer Reports called Toyota's hybrid cars very reliable.
