What is the meaning of Christmas these days?

I'm getting ready to finish off my Christmas shopping. Fortunately, I have just one thing left to buy, but Christmas has been a bit of a pain. Gift-giving has become a necessary form of social networking, and I can't stand it. Additionally, even some extended family members have gone crazy, telling people what they want for Christmas, and they aren't asking for cheap things.

Sure Christmas is about giving, but it shouldn't be just about giving gifts, rather it should be about giving time, compassion and cheer.
