Health Care Crisis or Fat Crisis?
Americans can't take care of themselves?A new study suggests that a significant reason for America's health care crisis is, well, American habits - bad habits. Quite simply, we eat poorly and we don't exercise. Thus, we're fat, and not just fat, but OBESE.
"We expected to see differences between disease prevalence in the United States and Europe, but the extent of the differences is surprising," said Ken Thorpe, professor of public health at Emory University and a study co-author. "It is possible that we spend more on health care because we are, indeed, less healthy."
While insurance companies and the insured certainly pose legitimate challenges to the health care system, insured Americans are causing significant problems because we are FAT and LAZY.
When the government takes over health care, will they also start mandating the diet of Americans? Telling us what to eat might be the only way to save the U.S. health care system - I can't wait to be part of that brave new world!
