So my girlfriend leaves the continent - a decision she made on her own btw - for a year. I am making plans, bending over backwards looking for ways that I can meet up with her and live in Africa. When she leaves, i decide I want to get her something good you know, something she'll really use, so I splurge for it and get her a nano ipod.
She made me a toe painting.

i agree with chad, that's pretty funny. but isn't it the thought that counts anyway? it may not be worth a lot money, but she took time out of her life to paint it for you.

Fist of all, i cant believe shed expect you to wait for a year until she comes back. Now, dont get me wrong, dude, if shes a real keeper and you love her, then by all means, wait it out. But dont start crying if you end up breaking up, or it turns out she's given a few other guys some "toe paintings".
it all comes down to this: do you love this chinsey yet thoughtfull bastard enough to wait that long (can you wait that long) or should you say fuck it and find yourself a new lass?
if she breaks that nano, she owes you ALOT of toe paintings...or something else...haha

well i moved country from SCOTLAND to MALAYSIA!!!! just so i could be with my fiance cos some of her family is out here. i hate this country, no one understands my sense of humor and they all way to fucking serious.
I have a expat job and i hate it, it was created for me when i came here by her "big brother' which i found out they went on a date a few years back but it didnt work out.

Things were great, untill she started getting way spiritual, like OTT spiritual. I mean we dont believe in god as such, but she has begun to take it a bit to far, THE HOLOGRAM UNIVERSE!!!

I dont know what to do. I love her to the end, yet we are only young-early 20's, and i realise there is so much i want to do beore i settle down.......but we have been together for 2 years, living together for 2 years, been engaged for almost 2 years. she is a part of my life. but im really starting to go crazy. It would be really great if i could just put her in a little box with a sedative and go have my fun, come and wake her up in 4 years and get on with it. But that is just really selfish, pretty shalow and above all else, a total missconception of what is.

Hey there - coming from a girl's perspective, MOST females give guys sentimental gifts and most girls like RECIEVING sentimental gifts. If anything the painting is a good gesture and by buying a nano may not have been the best idea- but rather a scrapbook of pictures, moviestubs, or even little corky drawings. It would be awesome to go away for so long and beable to have a constant reminder of whats waiting for you when you come home. Dont beat yourself up about her leaving for a year- anyone who says they love someone WONT hold their significant other back!!!!! Let her be HER and you need to concentrate on YOU. I've had a long distance relationship for about THREE years now and if youre negative- you WILL NOT make it, but if you're positive and give eachother your space- then you'll realize that the distance will actually help your relationship grow. Dont be so pessimistic! Look on the bright side- there's an AIDS epidemic over there- if shes smart do you REALLY think shes going to cheat on you... lmao. Be happy.

Um...I thought my girlfriend loved me, but she's done a complete turnabout and only thinks about herself. Not only that, she never lets me kiss her and says she doesn't like sex anymore. She says things like "I don't need you" and "I love you but I don't need you." Great girlfriend. I give her an F- only because that's the lowest available grade letter.

When your girlfriend goes to Africa for a year, you do not have a girlfriend anymore. Especially if it is something she was not planning before you were together. She will meet some hunky fellow adventurous spirit there, or several. I have personal experience with this one. That ex is now in a polyamourous marraige...good riddance.
I also have been there with the OTT "spiritual" girlfriend, mine wrote articles about how crystals are "alive." To be blunt, you are now dating an insane person. You have to decide whether you are ok with that.
And if you are engaged to her for two years but feel that you are not ready to "settle down" yet, you should not marry that woman.
The person you should marry is the one that the thought of being away from them for anything more than a day is painful for you, and for her. You should feel astonished at your luck that this person wnats to be with you. If she is going to Africa for a year or you feel unready to settle down, then you were just two people who were lonely and got along well enough. Huge difference between that and being in love. When you find the right person, you will have no doubts.
Now I am engaged, and I look back at those past relationships and I realize that I was mostly wishing and settling, thinking the perfect woman for me was not out there anyway. Thinking that eventually we might really fall in love if they just stopped doing all those things that horribly annoyed me.
The internet now lets us find a person who blows our fantasy perfect girlfriend away. I did. In February she will be my wife. Thanks OkCupid, and no, I am not affilated with them or paid by them. But it is free and when it works, my god does it work well.

What can I say mate? The toe painting thing sucks. Women, they're fucking terrible things! Mine sends me a couple of pics of herself proclaiming her love then a week or so later promptly tells me I have to prove I can give her a better a life than this other idiot. Well, so she was cheating AND now I must buy her love??? FUCK THAT!!! When will they get it that we can all cook and clean for ourselves if we so choose? I would like to warn anyone out there who decides to date Christy Martin from South Jersey, as she is a cheating whore who is not to be trusted. I had been seeing this girl for five years. We have had our share of problems. She has cheated and lied to me in the past, and I won't lie, I got into another relationship at one point to get back at her for it. But we worked things out and were doing okay.
Until she got mad one year after my having seen the other girl (which happened the year before and lasted for not even a week and plus we didn't even talk every day much less have sex) and she decided to take off to travel around Europe without me (I might also add, she canceled our trip to Mexico for her trip). Now, I was fully supportive and did everything I could to make her trip easier. And she left.
Then, not even a week into her trip, I start finding comments on her Myspace about her being in love with and marrying other people. And looking back now it was all in good humor or whatever, but that still really hurt when you're only hearing from her once a day and she'll only mumble an "I love you."
I broke it off with her while she was over there but when she got back she expected me to just get back with her and I, being the coward I am, did. And the thing here is she never made any attempt to understand why I broke up with her in the first place.
I wasn't happy and she didn't seen to care. So I began to push her away. We didn't hang out as often because I acted like I was really busy and tired from school and work.
I had remained consistently faithful throughout our entire relationship and I was really hurt over the fact that, even if she didn't cheat again, she really made it look like it. I was going to forgive her, but I really needed some space for a while so I decided to finish up my schooling in NY.
When I told her she completely flipped. She ran off and ignored my calls. But I'll be honest I didn't really try to get in touch with her. I'm sure I would have had I really tried, but I was too hurt to really do anything.
So a few months before I left, I was hanging out with an acquaintance(which is really unusual for me, since I am either with her or alone all the time), when things got a little weird and they tried to have sex with me. The whole physical contact thing didn't even last for a minute. I went home and the acquaintance and I decided to never do that again or tell anyone. We were both pretty ashamed but we didn't want to cut each other out of our lives since we seemed to get along well as friends.
So, out of guilt, I started spending more time with my girl. And she was being overly nice and I got really guilty and admitted it to it. She freaked out then, but came around and we were doing okay again. She wanted me to cut that person out of my life, and believe me, I tried. It took longer than expected to really cut that person out and she started getting mad at me. But finally I got them out of my life and we were doing okay again.
Every once in a while she would have a complete break down over the thing. That didn't seem fair to me since I never brought any of her indiscretions up, much less pushed them in her face. But what sucks is she actually like the people (I say people here because it happened more than once) that she left me for and enjoyed herself. I was not into the person and nor did I enjoy myself. On top of that she still has connections with all these people. I asked that she not remain in contact with the people she hurt me with outside of the country, but she did not stop. And I accepted it.
Anyways, she broke up with me finally because she "could not get over me cheating on her." I don't think this is fair. I am really hurting over this, and I am not sure If I even should be.
Me and my girlfriend have been together for about 2 years now...
