Controversial NY Post cartoon - Is it racist?

Rate your views. Is this cartoon racist? This cartoon has caused quite a stir since the NY Post published it. Many are calling it a racist depiction of Barack Obama. At first glance, I found it hard not to think it not racist, but I was already expecting it to be racist. After sleeping on it, I'm not so sure. Monkey Suit "Any monkey in a suit could do your job," is a phrase I've used, heard used and even seen on TV, many times. I think Bush was made to look like a monkey many times. Obviously, this is a little different, as there is no suit. Of course, the monkey is based off the violent Connecticut ape attack. So there are multiple stories being depicted. Ultimately, there are many interpretations that can be made. Some of them racist. Some of them just deragotory. Some even unrelated to Barack Obama. In recent weeks there were many, even in Democratic circles, whom criticized Nancy Pelosi and her management of the Stimulus bill. In many ways, she, not Barack Obama, wrote the stimulus bill. So, this cartoon could just as easily be attacking Pelosi. Anyway, what do you think? Is this photo racist? Should it be considered hate speech? Or was this story blown out of proportion?
